Clubs and Societies

Information about the clubs and societies that use our hall.

Failand Art and Crafts Club

This group started in September 2008 when a small band of local artists decided it would be nice to meet regularly to work together and help each other develop their skills. Since those early days there have been over 70 people use the group and a couple of the original members still remain. We decided from the beginning not to operate as an art class and employ teachers but to help each other develop our skills. This has meant a very informal and relaxed atmosphere where people can progress at their own pace where there is no competition. We have painters in water colours, oils and acrylics and other members who work in pencil, charcoal and ink. We have had artists who worked in glass and card making and currently have a felt maker. There are artists of all abilities, and with the informal help we provide, all improve their skills and share their talents. In the past we have held our own exhibitions and joined other local groups in their art shows. The group meets every Wednesday afternoon between 2pm and 4.30pm with the obligatory tea break somewhere in the middle. We are always looking for new members to join our jolly band.

Now Yoga

Now Yoga at Failand Village Hall is lead by Jo Derrick, an experienced yoga teacher who has been teaching in Bristol & the South West for 7 years. Fully qualified by Yoga Alliance in Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra and qualified to teach children. Her classes are inclusive, they are not beginners classes but beginners are welcome.  The sessions last an hour starting slowly and moving into a flow of yoga postures using the breath as a connection for mind and body. The sequences are different every week working on strength, stretch, balance or flexibility. Practising to a music playlist invites a calm safe space to be.  There are challenging poses, with modifications depending on your yoga experience and always with time to pause and focus on the breath, if you choose you can miss bits out. You are always encouraged to listen to your body and make the right choices for you. If you have  an injury or have had a medical procedure please check with your doctor before joining class.  At the moment, we are meeting in the Hall at 6:30pm on Wednesday's. You will need to bring your own Yoga Mat, and if you like to use them blocks. We practise in bare feet. Wear leggings, joggers or long shorts, with a vest or T. Shirt.  Towards the end of class in relaxation pop on a jumper & socks or bring a blanket if you wish. Class review:  "The most perfect way to relax at Failand Village Hall! I arrive exhausted and leave feeling like a warrior, full of energy, calmness, enthusiasm for life and love to give to the week ahead!"

Little City Bristol

The award-winning mobile role-play experience for preschoolers! If your little one loves to role-play why not pay a visit to our toddler-sized street where they can pretend to be a firefighter, a shopkeeper, a hairdresser, run their own cafe or be a doctor and lots more! We have a wide range of dressing-up outfits, ride-on vehicles and lots of high-quality toys to help them fully embrace the roles they are pretending to play! Designed for confident walkers up to the age of 5yrs (extended up to 6yrs during school holidays) the sessions are entirely child-led so they'll decide which areas they want to explore on the day. Group sizes are limited so the children all have equal access to the toys and it never feels too busy.
